Con 86 Master tracks, il gioco offrirà la più ampia selezione di musica su disco mai proposta in un unico videogioco musicale.
Le canzoni spaziano su un arco temporale di oltre 40 anni di storia del rock e comprendono alcuni dei più importanti e prolifici artisti di tutti i tempi tra cui Jimi Hendrix, The Doors, Van Halen, Metallica, Ozzy Osbourne, Michael Jackson e tanti altri ancora. Quest’autunno dunque, quando le luci si abbasseranno, una nuova generazione di assi della chitarra, di batteristi e di indomiti frontman salirà sul parco virtuale di Guitar Hero che includerà nuove modalità di gioco online e offline rivoluzionarie tra cui la modalità online Carriera delle Band e Battaglia delle Band a 8 giocatori, che consentirà a due intere band di competere testa a testa online per la prima volta. Il gioco offrirà anche una chitarra completamente ridisegnata per il gioco, una batteria elettronica fedele a quella reale ed un microfono, così come un innovativo creatore musicale denominato Music Studio che permetterà ai giocatori di comporre, registrare, editare e condividere la propria musica. I compositori potranno poi condividere online le loro registrazioni con tutti i loro amici attraverso GHTunesSM da cui altri giocatori potranno scaricare e cimentarsi con una infinita quantità di creazioni uniche.
Guitar Hero World Tour è sviluppato da Neversoft Entertainment per i formati Xbox 360 di Microsoft e PlayStation 3. La versione per Wii, invece, è in sviluppo presso Vicarious Visions, mentre quella per Playstation 2 è in sviluppo presso Budcat.
